Super Trawler FV Magiris Threatens Australian fish stocks

This 142 metre Super Trawler has nets up to 600 metres long and is chasing a license to catch 18,000 tonnes of mackeral and redbait off the Australian coast from Western Australia to Queensland. Their science on available fish stocks is old and yet they have the opportunity to double their quota to 36,000 tonnes.
The bycatch is 1 % - massive when you consider the quota volume - sharks, dolphins and anything that swims mid zone...In Australia we have had many fisheries collapse due to poor science - most have not recovered ...this supertrawler has a history of overfishing in other countries so why should we trust them. Our fish belong to a complex migratory fragile ecosystem - it's insane to think we can remove a species and not harm creatures up and down the food chain.
It's due to arrive in August to start vacuuming up the ocean.
