In July 2023, a disturbing incident on a Spirit Airlines flight shocked passengers and the public. A woman was denied access to the restroom, leaving her with no choice but to urinate in the cabin. Instead of receiving assistance, she was recorded and the video was posted online, turning her humiliation into viral entertainment. This was more than an isolated event — it exposed deep failures in Spirit Airlines' duty of care to its passengers, from inadequate restroom access policies to a lack of staff support and protections against invasive filming.
No traveler should ever be denied a basic human need or have their dignity violated in such a degrading way. Spirit Airlines must take responsibility and act now. We call on CEO Ted Christie and the Spirit Airlines leadership team to:
1. Guarantee clear restroom access policies that prioritize passenger health and dignity.
2. Train staff to respond compassionately and effectively to passenger emergencies.
3. Enforce rules that protect passengers from being filmed and humiliated without consent.
4. A Public Apology to the Passenger (African Woman in the incident)
By making these changes, Spirit Airlines can begin to restore trust and ensure that no passenger ever faces such treatment again.
