Keep Lake Access Fair

Support equal access, shared use, and compromised decisions for Lake Keesus and Moose Lake.

We, the undersigned residents, taxpayers, families, boaters, business owners, and supporters of Lake Keesus and Moose Lake, believe lake-use issues should be addressed locally through resident-led discussion, voluntary guidelines, and the respective lake management districts.

We believe:

  • Lake uses, including wake enhancement and wake surfing, should be addressed through local discussion rather than a Town ordinance.
  • Each lake has its own unique conditions, concerns, and community context.
  • The residents of each lake, working through their respective lake management districts, are best positioned to find practical solutions.
  • The Town of Merton should not add another layer of regulation to a local lake issue that can be handled closer to home.
  • Decision-making should remain with the people most directly affected rather than risk becoming the legislative or financial responsibility of the Town Board or its taxpayers.

We support responsible lake use, open communication, fairness, and practical compromise. We believe the Town should leave this matter to the respective lake communities so they can continue working through it locally rather than through new or amended Town regulations.

We call on the Town of Merton Board to not pass or amend any ordinance regarding wake enhancement, including wake surfing, on Lake Keesus or Moose Lake, and to direct this issue back to the respective lake residents and management districts.

The Town should not take this issue away from the people who live with it every day.
