Help Fight Combat Stress

This petition is not about war.  Rather, it is about helping those who have answered the call to serve.

American Combat Veterans of War is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization comprised of mainly combat veterans who advise, assist and mentor our nation's young warriors, helping them lead productive and fulfilling lives in the wake of combat.

Our programs have been effectively helping our military in southern California since 2001.  This petition is asking our federal government to provide funding to help us expand our programs so we can help more troops.  We are not asking the government to increase the budget or to take money from other programs.  VA funding has already been increased by the Obama administration by 25 billion dollars over the next five years.  The money exists for programs such as ours.  Please see our Target Letter for this petition and help those who have answered the call.  You can also go to our website at http://www.acvow.org/
WHEREAS American Combat Veterans of War (ACVOW) is a community based veterans organization where veterans mentor, advise and assist other veterans and their families in the pursuit to lead productive and fulfilling lives in the wake of combat; and

WHEREAS, ACVOW was founded in 2001 by Vietnam veterans who understand the physical and psychological impact of war on the warrior as well as the family, and who want to assist other veterans with post-deployment readjustment; and

WHEREAS, ACVOW provides a forum where veterans can come together and work through their stress, depression, anger and disconnect by sharing their combat and post combat experiences with other veterans who understand combat and post combat adjustment; and

WHEREAS, ACVOW serves as an advocacy organization which draws attention and awareness to combat veterans suffering from post traumatic stress (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI) and performs outreach to veterans, public officials, government representatives and the public at large; NOW, THEREFORE,

WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, urge our local and federal government leaders to fund the expansion of ACVOW services throughout the country and abroad, giving our veterans and active duty personnel, as well as their families, counseling and assistance wherever they are deployed or discharged.  We believe there should be an ACVOW office in every Veterans Administration hospital in the United States of America.  We believe there should be an ACVOW advocacy office in every major military community and base throughout the world.  We believe there should be an ACVOW debriefing program at every military installation where troops are deployed to combat.  We believe Congress should provide the funding necessary to train and facilitate the aforementioned programs.
