Make "Northwest Passage" the national anthem.

I propose that the song “Northwest Passage”, by Stan Rogers, be declared the new national anthem of Canada.

Reasons:

1. A ship belonging to the Franklin expedition has just been discovered and is now being explored.

2. “Northwest Passage” celebrates the Franklin expedition along with several other great voyages of discovery that created the modern nation of Canada. It is told from the perspective of a modern Canadian driving across the country.

3. “O Canada” lacks interest, both in music and in lyrics.

4. To maintain sovereignty, Canadians must show that they care about the Arctic.

5. The chorus is easily sung by untrained singers and evokes great passion.

6. A trained singer can make its performance an inspiring work of art.
