People in Fortuna, California trusted their local animal sanctuary to give vulnerable dogs a second chance. Instead, investigators uncovered a nightmare.

Authorities have already recovered the bodies of 117 dogs, along with 21 dog skulls and hundreds of additional bones buried on the property. Even more disturbing, authorities are now trying to determine what happened to roughly 730 animals that reportedly passed through the sanctuary over the past year.

Sign the petition to demand a full-scale investigation that identifies everyone responsible and ensures every person involved is held accountable.

According to investigators, this is only the beginning. Investigators also discovered approximately 600 dog collars and, according to officials, many of the dogs examined showed evidence consistent with gunshot injuries.

Law enforcement has used heavy equipment and ground-penetrating radar to search the property, uncovering additional animal remains in advanced stages of decomposition. Investigators say there is still an enormous amount of evidence to examine, witnesses to interview, and data to process.

This cannot become just another animal cruelty case. Multiple people participated in, knew about, enabled, or helped conceal what happened.

Organizations entrusted with vulnerable animals have an extraordinary responsibility to protect them. When that trust is violated on this scale, every possible lead should be pursued until the full truth is uncovered.

The hundreds of families who surrendered beloved animals deserve answers. Sign the petition now to urge authorities to devote every available resource to this investigation, identify everyone responsible, and pursue the strongest possible charges against anyone involved in these alleged crimes.
