Protect the Weaselhead Environmental Area

The government of Alberta and the municipal government of Calgary are considering putting a roadway through the Weaselhead Environmental Area or the ajoining Glenmore reservoir.

The Weaselhead Environmental Area is truly an amazing Alberta treasure. The 404-hectare, pristine, natural habitat, consists of steep escarpments, floodplains, a delta, five distinct habitats and over 1000 species of flora and fauna clustered around a meandering mountain-fed river. It truly is Calgary's most ecologically interesting natural area and our most highly protected park. One in five Albertans get their drinking water from the Glenmore reservoir which is filtered through the Weaselhead area whihc lies at the head opf the reservoir. If this roadway is allowed to proceed we will lose this amazing ecological treasure forever.

If that not enough, the Glenmore reservoir's water quality will be endangered and will force the city to pay more for water treatment. Sedimentation will change, there'll be run-off, who knows what could spill into it, from a overturned tanker truck, pesticides, toxins etc.

Why expose ourselves to the risk? Stop the madness, let your voice be heard by signing the petition.

We the undersigned are completely opposed to any proposed connector, roadway, bridge, or tunnel which would go through any part of the Glenmore Reservoir and/or the Weaselhead Environmental Area. I believe this to be an important issue which impacts all Calgarians.
