We are scared. Our right to bodily autonomy is under attack by forced pregnancy extremists all over the United States.
Since January 2019, 8 states (AL, AR, GA, KY, MO, MS, OH, UT) have passed legislation that would threaten a woman's right to choose whether or not she wants to remain pregnant. The most stringent law – Alabama – would outlaw abortion outright. But the other bills that slowly chip away at reproductive rights are just as dangerous too. This is a direct threat to human rights, and unconstitutional at that.
The state legislators passing these bills know this. Alabama, in particular, passed and signed into law legislation that is directly in conflict with the Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision because as the bill's sponsor and Alabama's governor said, "it's time for the Supreme Court to revisit Roe v. Wade. The demand to take up Roe v. Wade has grown louder now that the Supreme Court retains a conservative majority. More than ever our rights are under attack.
Signing on to this petition is a declaration that every person should have the right to make their own choice. Keeping abortion legal is an affirmation of equal rights. Take action now and sign on to support them in the fight to keep abortion legal.
Update #25 years ago
Illinois just passed a law protecting abortion rights. This is exactly the state by state protections we need across the country given the state of the Supreme Court. Let’s keep pushing for more abortion protections all over the US!
Update #15 years ago
Louisiana has become the most recent state to pass a heartbeat ban bill, outlawing abortion at about 6 weeks. We need to be louder in our opposition to this forced-birth extremism.
