The City already has a budget and new location for a New Recreation Center . This would allow the building at 1815 New York avenue to remain operational until the new building is completed. Closing this recreation center for 1-2 years affects many residents, senior citizens, employee's and children. it also affects many programs for all ages; children's day camp, various programs to help children stay off the streets. exercise programs for all ages. having the only in-door pool it affects children and adults swimming lessons, water aerobics several times a week. many of those whom attend water aerobics have been referred there for various health issues including arthritis.
The City hired a consultant to develop a feasibility study on the potential to co-locate the new recreation center and library into building. Public meetings and a survey were used to gather feedback, with 76% of the respondents preferring the co-location idea.
