Support Oceana to Increase The Protection Of Seafloor Habitats from Bottom Trawling

There is continual concern regarding fishing methods and trawling along the seafloor.  Bottom trawling is a grave concern for animal and environmental advocates at Oceana due to the dangers impacting the seafloor ecosystem and habitat. Read more on these concerns at http://act.oceana.org/sign/nmfs-pfmc_protect-efh_201604/?source=mailing&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=072016enews&utm_source=mailing&t=4&akid=8470.1459118.Vo32C-

I have some major concerns regarding the ocean’s living seafloor, such as sponges, rocky reefs, corals and underwater canyons. These treasures of the sea provides crucial habitat for marine life such as fish, sea stars and octopus in the use of reproduction, growth, feeding and shelter.  Bottom trawlers can endanger this life and habitat, jeopardizing the greater health of the ocean ecosystem.

The effort in this petition is to urge the Pacific Fishery Management Council and NOAA Fisheries to protect our ocean’s vital productive seafloor habitats, and ensure healthy fisheries, oceans and the planet. They need to make necessary changes that will confirm the protection of sea life and habitat from bottom trawling, especially where there contains sensitive habitat types.   You can help with this issue by signing and sharing this petition, adding your own comments and thoughts on the issue.

Pacific Fishery Management Council and NOAA Fisheries – Oceana has made proposals regarding the conservation of ocean life and I urge you to adopt these proposals that would increase the protection of seafloor habitats, especially those off of the U.
