Someone Mowed Down Sleeping and Nesting Geese in Canada, Killing Four and Injuring Another

In a horrific display of animal cruelty, a 17-year-old used his car to chase down and kill multiple Canadian geese in Winnipeg, Canada.

The teenager went on a spree, seeking out multiple nests and areas where geese could be found.

That night, terrified geese were either chased from their nests and mowed down, or run over as they slept. This kind of brutality cannot go unchecked!

According to reports, all of the incidents happened across multiple parking lots in Winnipeg.

First, he ran over a goose that was asleep and completely unable to flee or defend itself. Luckily, this goose was only injured and not killed -- but the trauma it suffered will last forever.

Next, the boy found two more sleeping geese in another parking lot. He used his vehicle to crush the two sleeping geese, brutally killing them.

About 20 minutes later, he found his next victims in another parking lot. He flushed two geese from their nests, where they might have even had eggs or chicks that they were taking care of.

These geese must have been terrified as he chased them down and drove over them, killing them.

Canadian geese are a protected species; they are living, breathing, feeling things. Four were killed that night, and one was horrifically injured.

This type of violence should really, really concern us. Violence against animals is never okay, but it is also often a warning sign of a deeper problem. We know from research that this kind of violence escalates, often continued against other animals, or eventually even people.

That's why we're asking the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) to make sure that, as a part of his sentencing, this boy gets mandatory mental health counseling -- the future safety of Winnipeg's animal and human population depends on it.
