Close the Peabody Road Abattoir in North Camp, it is not appropriate or safe for it to be so close to family homes.

The abattoir on Peabody Road, North Camp, Farnborough is a hazard to the health of all residents who live near it. It's totally inappropriate for such a place to be allowed to function so close to residential properties where families and children live. It’s not at the end of the road or surrounded by land – it is right in the middle of a street of houses and backs on to a quiet road in which children play.

During the holidays, families are at home and children are playing in gardens; they do this to the sound of distressed animals, shouting men and buzzing machinery, accompanied by unholy stench. This is particularly marked during the Summer months, when the longest holiday obviously falls.

An appropriate location for such a business is surely out of town or on an industrial estate? I believe an abattoir poses as much of a health risk as a rubbish dump, with vast bins of animal carcasses standing for hours on end and effluence being washed across pavements into the drains.

Add to this the additional risk posed by enormous lorries turning in what is a very narrow road (used by children on their way to the schools on Queens Road) and the occasional RAMPANT BOVINE charging about the streets and it surely becomes very apparent that perhaps such a location is less than ideal for an abattoir?
I urge local residents and their friends and family to sign this petition to make Rushmoor Borough Council accountable for a situation that any rational person must see is ludicrous.

Thanks in advance,
R. Ingle, resident of Peabody Road.
