World Vision - Stop Exploiting Bunnies in the Name of Charity!

THE ANTI-WELFARE, ANTI-SUSTAINABILITY, PRO-CRUELTY, STICKING-PLASTER CAMPAIGN FOR THOSE IN POVERTY BY WORLD VISION UK

"These furry friends are known for breeding like... well rabbits! This is what makes them so valuable. Your gift of a pair of rabbits will provide a great business opportunity for a family who can sell the abundant offspring at market."

World Vision UK have said the offspring will be sold at markets for slaughter. They cannot monitor and can realistically have absolutely no idea how these rabbits or the breeding rabbits will be kept or killed. They are keen to justify their exploitation and have uploaded a video showing incorrect handling with rabbits kept in cramped and highly inadequate conditions. We agree that poverty needs to be addressed, but this is not the right way.

The campaign features a picture of celebrity Linda Barker holding a cute rabbit whilst supporting their treatment as breeding machines, suffering whilst pumping out endless babies to be used for meat and fur. Despite copy-and-paste claims that people receiving these ‘gifts’ also receive training in care and providing the same canned wholesale denial response to each expression of grave concern for welfare thus far, World Vision UK cannot provide evidence that the animals will be treated humanely so are most certainly promoting inhumane treatment. Their excuse is that it isn’t in the UK. It would require an exotic specialist vet to monitor health and welfare.

Sending animals to less economically developed areas does not mean that cruelty will not exist. The animal will suffer no matter where it is if it is being exploited or mistreated. Rabbits are exotic, fragile animals with complex health needs and suffer terribly in silence until their early deaths from backstreet overbreeding. Who is providing this ‘training’? Where are all these rabbits coming from?

No living creatures should be given as gifts, or used in this cruel and unethical way. Even stores like Pets At Home cease sales of rabbits over Easter. We would not pay a charitable organisation £11 for a human being, a dog or cat to reproduce against their own consent for profit. It would be classed as abduction, rape and slavery.

This has been proven time and time again to be financially devastating to poor families. As one commenter states: “ I work for an environmental NGO and researched our paper on donating animals to poor rural peoples. Are you aware that many times the recipient families are singled out by the rest of the community because of the perceived or actual preferential treatment? What has WV set in place to ameliorate this?”

This is not the way to empower families to create sustainable futures for themselves, developing country or not. This is hugely immoral, irresponsible and unethical and there are a huge amount of other, better ways to assist, which World Vision UK proudly admit to utilising. They are NOT interested in objections to this.

PLEASE SIGN TO LET THEM KNOW THAT THIS IS INCREDIBLY CRUEL AND WORKS AGAINST WELFARE IN EVERY COUNTRY THIS ADVERT IS VIEWED.
