Ban Pet Rent, Now!

Many pets are being surrendered into animal shelters. About 45% of them get adopted and the rest are euthanized.

The reason for this is because landlords are now charging Pet Rent. They state that their reason for the extra charge PER pet is for the "wear and tear" that the animals might cause in the buildings (chewing walls, replacement of carpets,...etc). It is hard enough to find apartments that accept animals, but to charge extra rent for them is absurd. Pet rent can go from $20-$80 per month and deposits go from $100-$600. If renters can no longer keep their pets simply because they can't afford to pay the extra fees or because they will get evicted for having them in their home, it leads them to making the harsh decision of surrendering not only their pet but their family member to the shelter.

The only way landlords will allow you to have a pet is if they are registered as a service or emotional support animal.

Since when did we start discriminating pets?

So with the ban of Pet Rent, it would save animals from being taken into animal shelters and risked being euthanized and it would save pet owners the trouble of making the harsh decision of where their pet would go other than their own home.
