Establish a legal framework for euthanasia in NC

Currently in North Carolina there are no laws acknowledging whether or not it is legal to euthanize terminally ill patients. Research (Gallup Poll) shows that sixty-nine percent (69%) of people support euthanasia to a terminally ill patient that requests it. The two states which have legalized it have seen positive effects such as a lower suicide rate.

Terminally ill patients that meet certain criteria should be able to decide if they want to be euthanized. Please show your support for the rights of these patients to be able to choose for themselves. This petition will urge lawmakers to establish the legal framework favorable to these patients.
We the undersigned, strongly believe that the positive effects of legalized euthanasia justify laws favorable to the rights of patients. The risk of not having laws opens the door to misuse or abuse of euthanasia and can cause more harm. Oregan was the first state to legalize euthanasia with the Oregan Death with Dignity Act and has since been upheld in court several times and serves as a good reference for your consideration. Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and considering the proposition.
