The Violence Against Women Act Isn't a Distraction!

GOP Senate candidate Sarah Steelman said that the Violence Against Women Act is a distraction created by the Democrats to avoid "real issues" like the budget. She later admitted that she was unfamiliar with the VAWA.

The Violence Against Women Act is the leading piece of legislation in the fight against domestic violence and sexual assault. Violence against women isn't just a "real issue", it's a major issue.

Up until now, the VAWA has been supported by people with all political views, but language that supports LGBT folks and immigrants is making Republicans object to it, causing a controversy.

As a person running in a major political race, Sarah Steelman should be educated about the VAWA, and as a person and a woman, she should support it wholeheartedly. Please tell Sarah Steelman that the Violence Against Women Act isn't a distraction!

Violence against women is a major, real, and important issue, and the Violence Against Women Act fights hardest against domestic violence and sexual assault. The controversy comes from Republicans objecting to language supporting LGBT people and immigrants.

We are writing to you today to say that the Violence Against Women Act isn't a distraction, and that not only should you be educated about this legislation as a political candidate, but should support it as a person and a woman.
