Eastbourne South Harbour Martello Field Campaign for Recreation Area

Sadly work has started to build, another natural spot lost to flats and houses, despite petioning the EBC and the government we got nowhere.  Short term greed will end in long term loss of and natural recreation area that is loved by many and will now be reduced to a small area to walk around overshadowed and overwhelmed by the flats and houses.

SAVE THE MARTELLO FIELD AT SOVEREIGN HARBOUR SOUTH - SIGN THIS PETITION because we are appealing to the minister for community and social care to intervene in this undemocratic decision taken by EBC.

WE NEED THIS SPACE South Harbour MARTELLO FIELD may be just a small space but we need this natural green area of tranquility which allows residents and visitors walk, exercise their dogs, cycle, jog, bird watch, fish and just sit to enjoy the view of Eastbourne and the Sovereign Harbour from the Martello Field. Health and wellbeing of all the south and north harbour residents is important and this is a community space which is used every day.

The planned 62 flats and 10 houses will leave no area for walking alongside the area that is needed for the sea defence work to be carried out for many months of each year. The sea defence work this year has already caused flooding in existing dwellings and to build nearer to the work would be unsafe and leave no proper area to walk through. Residents look after the green and shingle area here by litter picking. The area could be landscaped and planted to give a beautiful finish to this end of Eastbourne seafront to show off the Martello and give a designated area for the sea defence workers to use. Safety is an issue if the buildings proposed overcrowd this area. Reference the effect on existing dwellings and their residents: 10 houses with driveways between the roundabout and the first bend in Martinique Way will cause more traffic and noise problems in an already over populated area. 62 flats will overshadow and warmth and light will be blocked from existing dwellings despite what their findings are on trajectory and light levels again affecting the health of all. Emergency service vehicles have problems getting through now due to poor parking.

This is the only natural green space area we have left at South Harbour and at the very least the developers should provide a play which is what they signed up to in the first place.

PLEASE SIGN - THANK YOU

DEAR SIR  / MADAM

THIS ONLINE PETITON WAS CREATED ON 12 FEB 2016 AND IN THIS SHORT TIME ALL THESE PEOPLE BELIEVE THAT EBC SHOULD KEEP THE MARTELLO FIELD AREA FOR RECREATION  - NOT MORE BUILDING  - THAT WILL CAUSE US TO HAVE NO GREEN AREA LEFT AT ALL HERE AT SOUTH HARBOUR.   WE WISH TO MIRROR THE BEAUTY OF HOLYWELL AT THIS END OF THE HARBOUR WITH AN AREA OF GREEN AND NATURAL HABITAT THAT CAN ALSO STILL ALLOW THE ENVIRONMENTAL SEA DEFENCE WORK TO CONTINUE.  WE BELIEVE MOST STRONGLY THAT THERE IS NOT ROOM FOR MORE HOUSING, THAT IT IS TOO NEAR THE BEACH AND WILL BRING PROBLEMS OF MORE TRAFFIC, PARKING PROBLEMS, MORE NOISE TO THE AREA AND ROB SOUTH HARBOUR OF THE ONLY SMALL OPEN SPACE IT HAS LEFT FOR A PLAY AREA WALKING AND RECREATION.
