Addressing Key Challenges to Uphold PISE Standards

We want to make sure the major PISE problems are dealt with. Our objective is to help focus on the key areas that directly impact the academic quality and the rigorous standards the degree is meant to uphold.

    We face two major problems.

The first, and most widely reported in our student surveys, concerns language proficiency. While some professors demonstrate strong expertise in their fields, their ability to communicate this knowledge is limited by insufficient command of the English language. This creates a barrier to effective learning. Therefore, we request stricter language requirements for teaching staff: specifically, a minimum of C1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, which is similar to the requirement for PISE students upon entry.

Second, students have highlighted the need for better alignment between course delivery and CFU expectations. Courses should reflect their assigned workload, both in terms of content and duration. For example, a 12 CFU course should be delivered over a full semester, rather than being compressed into a shorter period, to ensure that learning objectives are properly achieved.

We appreciate your attention to these concerns and your support in improving the quality and standards of the PISE program.
