URGENT: No SROs in Portland Public Schools

Portland Public School district and the Portland Police Bureau are trying to create an agreement to pay police salaries ($1.2 million dollars per year) in order to increase the police presence within the schools.

While for some, this may appear a common sense solution for school safety, there may be serious repercussions that have not been considered. At the very least, this represents funding that is removed from the classroom or other potential upstream solutions.

Students, Teachers, Staff and Community members have concerns that have not been taken into consideration. There have not been adequate opportunities for people to discuss what safety concerns they have nor potential solutions which may not involve police.

On December 11th, 2018, the school Board passed the vote in favor of increasing police presence at Portland public schools.

Now the final vote lies with City Council.

Please sign this petition to tell Mayor Ted Wheeler and City Council not to pass this agreement.

*This Petition is almost at it's goal- please continue to circulate!

**The Students will be tabling at the MLK march to continue getting the word out and getting more support.
