Boycott El-Al AirLies, transporter of Mazor Farm monkeys to Hell

***** IMPORTANT UPDATE 19.6.2012: *****

After a little more than 5000 petition signatures and tens of thousands of emails, facebook messages and phone calls, El-Al has publicly announced that it will immediately and permanently refrain from flying any monkeys for experimentation purposes. We would like to congratulate El-Al for its decision. We are terminating the boycott, while keeping one eye open wide and watching, as we would like to make it clear that the true and only test is whether El-Al keeps its promise.

On June 12th 2012 El-Al Airlines (Israel) announced its intention, under the excuse of previous contractual obligations, to revert back to providing air transport services to Mazor Farm, the infamous monkeys breeding farm selling Macaque monkeys to horribly cruel experiments in laboratories around the world.

By that, El-Al has not only chosen an immoral and unacceptable path, it also violated its public announcement as of September 2010, not to transport any animals for experimentation purposes as an official policy (joining the vast majority of airlines in the world).

We the undersigned, cannot and will not tolerate this practice, however legally obligated the company may be. As of today, we will boycott El-Al by not purchasing any flights and cancelling our current reservations until the following is fulfilled:

1. El-Al immediately refraining from providing any services to Mazor Farm, and specifically the current intended shipment to SNBL laboratories, TX USA.
2. A public announcement signed by El-Al's board, guaranteeing that no such transports will ever take place as per the company's policy of September 2010, even at the risk of violating any contracts with current clients, whether such exist.

Should El-Al nevertheless revert to servicing the Mazor Farm and transporting its monkeys, we will not fly with it ever again, and support further legal actions against it.

I was dismayed to learn that El Al Airlines has agreed to transport 40 primates from Mazor Farm in Israel to Shin Nippon Biomedical Laboratories, a notorious U.S. animal testing facility with a history of violating animal welfare laws. Primates in laboratories are routinely mutilated, poisoned, deprived of food and water, forcibly immobilized in restraint devices, infected with painful and deadly diseases, and psychologically tormented. Additionally, primates suffer as a result of the long and grueling transport in the cargo holds of planes and in the backs of trucks. For these reasons, other airline companies--including Cathay Pacific, EVA Air, and China Airlines--refuse to transport primates for use in experiments. It is shameful that El Al Airlines lags behind and continues to support this ethically reprehensible practice.

It is especially troubling that El Al Airlines would agree to transport these primates in light of its prior assurances that it would abstain from this violent trade. Please join leading airline companies by adopting and adhering to a formal policy prohibiting the transport of primates destined for laboratories in order to ensure that your company plays no role in the suffering of these highly intelligent and sensitive animals.
