Demand that Europe approves an EU-wide ban on microbeads

Thousands of tonnes of plastic microbeads from cosmetic products wash into the sea every year, where they harm wildlife and can ultimately be eaten by people.

The UK recently approved a national ban on the sale and manufacture of products with plastic microbeads inside. Italy and France have already approved a decree law that will introduce this ban by 2020.

Unfortunately, the European Commission has not approved an EU-wide ban, and there is the probability that the laws in those countries might not be 100% effective. This issue is related to the principles of the free market through EU members.

Moreover, the EU recently released its Roadmap on the Strategy for Plastics that will lead all the EU members for the next decade in their politics on plastic pollution. In this Strategy, there was not a clear position against Microbeads.

In the UK, the CTPA (UK cosmetics trade association) has already appealed to the European Commission in order to prevent countries introducing an access barrier on European cosmetics products. Like the CTPA, many other national associations can do the same.

Our oceans and our health is seriously in danger due to microbeads, don't you think the EU should finally take a strong position in this field?

Please, ask the EU to ban Microbeads!
