END EUTHANIZATION OF HEALTHY DOGS & CATS IN CALIFORNIA

Every day in California and across the nation healthy dogs and cats are euthanized in shelters due to space and/or costs. How do we, as a society, value these animals less, but we are quick to protect humans who can't take care of themselves or shelter themselves? Do we euthanize them? No, we don't! We house killers, rapists, and others. We feed them, shelter them, and let them continue to breathe and exist. My tax dollars go to support people who can't support themselves.
Money and regulations are created to protect these types of people but not the animals. Humans are the creator of the animal pandemic and due to being our fault the ones to suffer are the dogs and cats. Animals are discarded like an item with not enough money and efforts spent on them but provided for the humans and all their needs.

Euthanizations are preventable with more funding for shelters to expand, mandatory spay/neutering, and tougher laws all make a difference. But still the animal's life is ended all because of a human. When shelters euthanize an animal, some say the animals not claimed by an owner are sold for not so good reasons. Did you know that someone can request to have their pet euthanized for any reason? It's barbaric and cruel. A reason why many like me, trust animals more than we trust humans.

How are the shelters and other including the owners requesting their healthy animal be put down get away with this? To me it's murder anyway you look at it. How is the below animal cruelty law in California provide exemption for shelters and owners? When I read the language as it states, it doesn't display these exemptions.

California Penal Code [CPC] §597(a) – Animal Cruelty – Penal Code §597(a) makes it a crime to intentionally maim, mutilate, torture, wound, or kill a living animal. Violation of CPC §597(a) can result in three years in a state prison, a fine of up to $20,000, or both a prison term and a fine.

So, lets tell our state leaders in California and the governor to end euthanization now and provide additional funding for shelters to expand or our own state-run facilities. We can do better.
