BC - Please opt out of EAEA and take back right for provincial review of major projects

PLEASE: FOR BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA RESIDENTS ONLY!:

In 2010, the British Columbia Liberal Government, under then premier Gordon Campbell, signed away the right for a provincial environmental review of major projects by agreeing to the Environmental Assessment Equivalency Agreement. The Agreement has an opt-out clause should either the provincial or Canadian Government decide to exercise it.

Today, BC is faced with the prospect of having the Northern Gateway pipeline built through the northern part of our province.  Instead of being able to have a provincial review, to determine if the project is in our province's best interest, we are having to rely on a supposed independent federal review panel to determine whether the project should proceed.  That wouldn't be so bad, if the Federal Government didn't suggest that they would have the final say, regardless of what decision the review panel reached.

To BC Premier Christy Clark, it has become clear that BCers can't depend on the Federal Government to protect BC's best interests. Residents of BC urge you, Premier Clark to please opt out of the EAEA and take back the right for a provincial review of major resource projects, one that truly takes BC's best interests into account.

BC residents, PLEASE sign this petition and share with your family and friends.  Let's not have Ottawa determine our province's entire fate, when it comes to major resource projects.

Thank you!
