Support the Puerto Rico Democracy Act (HR 2499)

H.R. 2499, The Puerto Rico Democracy Act of 2009, provides for a federally sanctioned plebiscite that would give the four million U.S. citizens of Puerto Rico an opportunity to freely determine Puerto Rico's future political status.

The U.S. citizens of Puerto Rico would be asked to state whether they wish to maintain the current territorial status or opt for a constitutionally viable non-territorial status.  If the people of Puerto Rico opt for a permanent non-territorial status, voters would be asked in a second plebiscite to choose between the options permitted by the Constitution: statehood or independence.
