ASL foreign-language elective

Why should Spanish French German and Latin be the only languages that we learn in school. Being deaf is protectable and you never know we will need ASL. I was in the military and had an accident and now I need to know ASL because I am hard of hearing. Profound hearing loss in my right moderate to severe and my left. Now at the age of 25 I have to learn a new language to be able to communicate. Having an interpreter where you live makes you look like you have a handicap versus if you're visiting another country I need an interpreter. Being deaf and hard of hearing is not a handicap and we shouldn't feel less in the hearing world when we can still learn and comprehend just like a hearing person.
