Send Gundul the orangutan to Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary

We have all heard the sad story of Gundul the orangutan, who for the past 20 years has spent her life chained beside a garbage dump as she outgrew her cuteness. Her owner is willing to give her up to the authorities but there is no place for her to go to.

There are suggestions to send her to the care of Borneo Orangutan Survival but their rescue centres are overloaded with rescued orangutans already and Gundul is such a tame creature that there is no chance for her release into the wild, which is the main mission of BOS.

The Wildlife Department in neighbouring Sabah which operates Sepilok orangutan sanctuary has offered to pay all costs and expenses to relocate her to Sepilok, a vast expanse of Borneo rainforest where other orangutans of Gundul's species live and play in complete freedom.

We need His Excellency, the Governor of East Kalimantan to please, please make an exception for Gundul. We know it has never been done before to have an orangutan relocated across country borders but orangutans know no borders. They only know where their own kind is and where plentiful food is available. Gundul belongs in the forests with her own kind. Please let compassion guide you in this decision to send Gundul to a rainforest home in Sepilok,
