Tell Mount Horeb Area School District to let students read book about transgender issues!

Following pressure from parents and an anti-LGBT group, students at a Wisconsin school will no longer read "I Am Jazz," a book about transgender issues. The school principal planned to let individual students opt out of the reading and discussion if their parents wished, but Florida-based group Liberty Council threatened to sue to prevent all students from reading it.

"I Am Jazz" tells the story of a real-life transgender child who identifies as a girl, but has male anatomy. The book gives other transgender children a voice, and helps educate all children on transgender issues.

Considering that children are allowed to opt out of the lesson, there is no reason to deny consenting students and parents the opportunity to learn about the transgender experience. Please sign the petition to urge Mount Horeb Area School District to let students read "I Am Jazz"!

We, the undersigned, are concerned with your choice to cancel a lesson on transgender issues following pressure from parents and an anti-LGBT group. We are disappointed that children will no longer have the opportunity to read and discuss "I Am Jazz." We understand that the school's principal planned to let individual students opt out of the reading and discussion if their parents wished, but Florida-based group Liberty Council threatened to sue to prevent all students from reading it.
