Tell South Carolina to Stand Against Puppy Mills!

South Carolina ranks 45th in the U.S. for animal protection laws. Recently, over 100 activists demonstrated at the state house in hopes of improving standards. One of the most troubling oversights in South Carolina's legislation is the absence of laws against puppy mills.

Irresponsible dog breeders hurt animals in many ways. They allow dogs to breed with no regard for genetic defects, propagating a line of dogs who will suffer from a variety of health problems. They also keep mother dogs in poor conditions, and separate them from their puppies before weaning is complete. Families suffer from these bad breeding practices, too. They suffer emotional distress when their puppies endure health problems and die, and they can suffer physically when ill-bred pups bring parasites and disease into their homes.

Dog breeders must be held accountable for their actions. Please sign the petition to urge South Carolina to create and enforce standards for dog breeders and pet stores!

We, the undersigned, are concerned with the lack of dog breeding standards in South Carolina.

As you know, irresponsible dog breeders and puppy mills hurt animals in many ways.

We respectfully urge you to create and enforce standards for dog breeders and pet stores!
