This Ice Detention Center Is Torturing Immigrants. Shut It Down, Now!

An investigation into California's newest – and largest – ICE detention facility has confirmed advocates' worst fears: what immigrants are experiencing there is a form of torture.

People detained at this facility, located roughly 100 miles north of Los Angeles, have described life there as "hell on earth." This detention center has consistently violated detainees' human rights: people have not been given their medication regularly, resulting in some detainees becoming unconscious. Others have been left hungry with inadequate food portions. Some detainees are too afraid to drink the water, which they say is dirty and unsafe. Some even reported only being able to leave their cells for 30 minutes in a single day, or being unable to use toilets and sinks because of unaddressed clogging.

Let's be clear: what these detainees have described is a form of torture. These are human rights violations, and they have got to end immediately.

Sign to tell the Department of Homeland Security: shut down this detention center NOW and end all future contracts with CoreCivic, the company that operates it!

CoreCivic is a private prison corporation that is responsible for operating this facility. That means that this company – which literally makes money off of the suffering of immigrants in detention – is responsible for all of the problems that people detained there are experiencing.

To make matters worse, some advocates claim that CoreCivic is operating the facility illegally, without the required permits

In 2024, CoreCivic's total revenue was a whopping $2 billion dollars. This company is profiting off of the immiseration of immigrants, and it's time to do something about it.

The U.S. government should end all of their contracts with CoreCivic moving forward, given that this company can obviously not responsibly operate a detention center without violating detainees basic human rights. This California City detention center should also be permanently shut down. If you agree, sign the petition now to urge the Department of Homeland Security to do something about it!
