Herman Cain, Don't Glorify Animal Cruelty!
Herman Cain's new Youtube video means to repudiate Obama's stimulus package. But many viewers are far more upset about its horrific depiction of animal cruelty.
The video features a young girl placing a rabbit in a basket, which is then hurled into the air. The screaming rabbit is then shot and killed by a man in a business suit. At the end of it, the girl, showing no emotion whatsoever, asks "Any questions? Any questions?"
Ultimately, it's just another anti-Obama ad, this one sponsored by the Cain-supported website SickofStimulus.com. And, yes, it's probably true that the rabbit murder is all accomplished with CGI (though a "No animals were harmed" disclaimer is notably absent).
But the real message of this ad seems to be that it's appropriate for politicians to depict graphic violence toward animals as a last-ditch response to their opponent's policies. And that is absolutely unacceptable.
Tell Herman Cain not to glorify animal cruelty in his political messages.
We the undersigned deplore the simulated cruelty of your recent "Sick of Stimulus" advertisement. While we have become accustomed to irrational attacks on President Obama, this particular video is disturbing in its representation of animal cruelty and a child completely indifferent to that cruelty. We understand that it is meant to be a metaphor for how small businesses are treated under the current tax code, but to represent animal cruelty so graphically does not send the right message. While we support your right to a political opinion, it should not endorse cruelty either directly or indirectly.
