Neglected Puppies Contracted Deadly, Contagious Disease. Five Have Already Died.
Parvovirus is an extremely contagious and deadly disease in dogs. It spreads easily, is hard to recover from - and without proper treatment, dogs with the virus have a fatality rate of 90%. But the neglect at one property in New York state was so bad, 17 puppies contracted this dangerous virus.
Authorities rescued these 17 puppies, along with 12 adult dogs, 9 cats, 31 birds, 5 chickens, and 4 horses - for a total of 78 animals. Now, veterinarians are racing to see if they can treat and heal these animals.
Officials are still investigating the case, so no charges have been filed. Sign the petition to urge authorities to ban the people involved in this widespread neglect case from ever living with, owning, or working with animals again in the future!
Already, five of the 17 puppies have died from parvovirus. The rest are receiving treatment, but only some of them are responding favorably. In fact, it seems possible that more of the puppies may die. Their little bodies are suffering as the virus wreaks havoc, inducing diarrhea, vomiting, and extreme lethargy. The illness is so concerning, the puppies have had to be placed in quarantine.
The rest of the animals are being treated separately, including with the help of a farm veterinarian.
This situation didn't arise out of nowhere. Someone had to - somehow - accumulate all 78 of these animals, and then look the other way and ignore it as the tiny puppies became extremely ill. The person or people involved have clearly shown they are not trustworthy and cannot be allowed to care for animals in the future.
Sign the petition to keep other animals safe - pets and farm animals both - by banning animal ownership for the people involved!
