"They Left Me Behind:" An Elderly Woman, a Starving Dog, and Seven Puppies Were Found Abandoned

"They left me behind." Those were the words of an elderly woman, found abandoned outside an empty Adams County home after eviction, calling for help. The building's landlord heard her calling for him less than 24 hours after the people who were living with her had emptied the house and fled. Just before leaving, these tenants also rushed to have a mother dog and her 7 puppies "re-homed immediately" but took off before anyone could get them to safety.

Abandoning 8 innocent animals and an elderly mother during an eviction sounds bad enough. But the story gets worse.

The mother dog was found "dangerously underweight." She was dehydrated and weighed only 35 pounds -- a whopping 15-20 pounds less than what would've been healthy for a dog like her. Rescuers immediately started caring for the still-nursing puppies, giving them formula to take stress off of their clearly weak mother.

Thankfully, this mama dog and her puppies are now safe, and the county is providing assistance to the elderly woman. But the people who abandoned them all put them in tremendous danger, and it's important the authorities carefully investigate the circumstances to understand the full scope of possible abuse.

Apparently, the elderly woman had been living in the home for years without incident. Then, her daughter and her boyfriend moved in, along with others that would come and go, and the issues began. Adams County authorities must find all responsible parties for the animal, and possibly elder, abuse that occurred on this property to ensure the safety of the entire community!
