Petition to eliminate Wednesday early dismissal for Elementary schools in Cecil County MD
In the 1970's Cecil County public schools initiated the early dismissal of elementary students on Wednesdays as a way to conserve energy. This early dismissal is no longer beneficial for that cause. Teachers stay at the schools and there is no energy conservation.
Teachers and staff may argue that it allows them planning time. However, every other school system in the state and country manages to do thier planning without this early dismissal.Cecil County teachers and staff can do the same.
We propose that the Wednesday early dismissal be eliminated and a regular school day be reinstated on Wednesdays.
This will save parents of elementary student, that have children in daycare, money each week. It will also put an end to the burden on bus drivers that have to race to return to the elementary schools at 11 am to retrieve per-k students to return them home after only 2 hours at school and then return at 2pm to pick up the remainder of students.
Please sign below if you agree that the Elementary Wednesday Early dismissal in Cecil County should be eliminated.
