Stop Use of Glue Traps in NY Apartments

Due to public pressure, Page Apartments, in New York City, temporarily stopped using glue traps. However, they have reneged on their promise; recently, mice were found stuck in glue traps and dying slow, painful deaths.

Glue traps cause incredible pain and suffering. Rodents that are trapped will rip themselves apart trying to escape. They are left to die very slowly – sometimes in days – from shock, dehydration, asphyxiation, or blood loss.

Not only are glue traps incredibly inhumane and cruel: they also pose a threat to humans. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and Health Canada, warn against glue traps. There are many pathogens excreted by rodents when stressed, so there are also risks of diseases for humans.

Please sign this position, and urge Page Apartments to be honest and uphold their promise of ending glue trap use.

Dear Page Apartments,

I am writing to you because it has recently come to public attention that your apartment has been, once again, using glue traps. These kinds of traps are incredibly inhumane and cruel. Rodents that are trapped will rip themselves apart trying to escape. They are left to die very slowly – sometimes in days – from shock, dehydration, asphyxiation, or blood loss.

Even if you are not concerned for the rodents, then keep in mind that glue traps also pose a threat to your human tenants. This is because rodents, when stressed, excrete many pathogens which can give humans diseases.

So I urge you to please stop using glue traps. Attached to this letter are the signatures of 770 people who are also urging you to stop.

Thank you.
