Veteran Protectors Initiative

With the recent vote to change the Louisiana Constitution, it is made clear that the people of Louisiana respect and support the legal carry of weapons in our state.  However, this has not changed the laws for carrying a concealed weapon, which still requires a state license.  The only legitimate requirement for this license is so the state government can insure that those who are carrying concealed weapons have been trained in the safe and effective use of firearms.

With that being the case the people of Louisiana would like to request that all returning, honorably discharged, military veterans with firearms qualifications listed on their DD214 discharge papers be allowed to use a copy of their discharge paper as their concealed carry permit.  These veterans have proven, above all Louisiana citizens, their willingness to defend our citizenry.  They have received the highest levels of firearms training by our federal government.  There should be no reason to deny these hero’s the right to safely and legally carry a weapon either openly or concealed
