Keep Court Attendants at Pinder (Rockledge Park) Tennis Center

Brevard County Parks and Recreation recently decided that all county park facilities that accepted payments with only a single attendant on duty needed to be eliminated for accountability reasons. This impacts Pinder Tennis Center, located at the McKnight Family Sports Complex in Rockledge, FL as it usually has a single attendant working week day mornings and evenings to take payments and reservations, provide assistance to players and teams, and do daily up keep and maintenance. Without attendants the facility will be open to the public during normal park hours with no oversight.

It is the general consensus among the Rockledge Park Racquet Association (RPRA) board of directors and it members that this change will negatively impact the facility and the overall tennis community. Pinder Tennis Center serves a large tennis community of about 175 paying members that play on a regular basis at the facility and a very large (over 1000 players) that visit periodically over the course of each tennis season. Our facility hosts 18 to 20 tennis teams (12 to 18 players each) with each team playing up to 20 matches per year at Pinder Tennis Center.

Specific impacts to the facility and participation due to the proposed change operating procedures include:

  • The ability to make and enforce reservations will be limited
  • Access to clay courts will be limited
  • Player safety and security are a concern
  • The potential for vandalism will be increased
  • Daily up keep and maintenance will likely suffer

These are some of the reasons that we feel it is important to keep the Pinder Tennis Center attendants on duty. Please sign our petition if you feel the same.
