SOS FOR BIRDS : URGE EUROPE TO REFORM THE CAP !

  • by: Muriel Laurent
  • recipient: Martin Schulz, President of the European Parliament

It could seem like science fiction but it's unfortunately facts : all bird's population is led to a collapse in Europe. Indeed the most recent survey made by the Pan-European Bird Monitoring Scheme shows that all common bird species numbers have crashed of 52% since 1980 !

The first to blame ? According to scientists and ornithologists the main responsibility for that environmental tragedy is due to the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) enforced by the EU over the last 30 years. In order to boost food production, hedgerows have been ripped up, wetlands have been drained, meadows have been ploughed up, insecticides are over-used : all kinds of damaging measures depriving birds of food and nesting !

Tell to Europe that it is time to end this absurd policy of waste and productivity and urge them to put an ecological farmland policy ahead of interests of food industry. We are facing with a major environmental disaster that we do not have the right to deny anymore !
