Support an Animal Cruelty Offenders' Register in the UK!

Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics director Prof. Andrew Linzey is calling for an Animal Cruelty Offenders' Register along with compulsory empathy training classes in response to the many thousands of cruelty cases every year.

Prison is not enough to curb the problem, as 40% of prisoners reoffend. Linzey proposes classes that would train offenders to empathize with the suffering of animals. Offenders who refuse to take the classes, don't finish the program or offend again would be placed on a national register.

According to Linzey, "Those on the register would be forbidden from keeping an animal, or working with them. This register could be consulted by individuals and employers and it would become an offense to sell an animal to such a person or employ them in animal related work."

Please sign the petition to urge the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to adopt Linzey's strategy to prevent animal cruelty.

Dear UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs,

Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics director Prof. Andrew Linzey is calling for an Animal Cruelty Offenders' Register along with compulsory empathy training classes in response to the many thousands of cruelty cases every year. We are writing to show our support for this strategy.

We believe that prison is not enough to curb the animal cruelty problem, as 40% of prisoners reoffend.

We believe that Linzey's strategy would be effective in protecting animals and their owners from cruel offenders. We respectfully urge you to adopt Linzey's strategy throughout the UK. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
