Everyone has equal rights shouldn't that include gender equality as well

My daughter who is 10 recently has told my family and myself that she likes females. This puts her in a different category in some American's eyes. In my eyes, she is the same person. I do not want her to be degraded or judged as she moves through this world and believe that equal rights and equality should be in the LGBTQ community heavily.
