Reintroduce the Medical Education for a Diverse America Act into Congress!

One thing the COVID-19 pandemic has shown us is that health equity is still not a reality for people of color in the United States. Communities from ethnic and racial minority groups continue to face challenges gaining access to quality health care, often because they are subject to discriminatory practices and the unrecognized, implicit biases of their physicians. That's why it is essential that these individuals have someone that understands their culture and is sensitive to their specific needs, so they can receive the most personalized and effective treatment possible.

The Medical Education for a Diverse America Act, first introduced in 2019, does just that. It gives medical school residents the opporutnity to enroll in cultural competency and language courses, increasing their knowledge of other cultures so they can provide better care in the future. Now more than ever, we need to encourage lawmakers to reintroduce this important act into Congress.
