Submission in Response to Proposed Mining Activities At Rasp Mine by BHOP

During their recent activities in 2007 this neighborhood endured loud firings damage to homes and even a cracked window.

What the Rasp Mine is proposing in there October update is a resumption of firings, a crusher built, ore transported from the crusher via dirt roads not far from Eyre St. Then onto Eyre Street and then returning empty via the same route.

This raises a number of concerns for us:

  1. Increased noise from firings, more possible damage to windows etc.
  2. Increased lead dust levels accumulating on our property.
  3. Increased noise from trucks on Eyre Street.
  4. An overall increase in noise and dust from 30-40 employees (as stated in SEE),    travelling to various locations on the mine site and up and down Eyre St.

The activities on the mine property are planned to be operational 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The trucking of ore using Eyre Street and crushing of ore will be 5 days per week   (the Mine Update does not mention which 5 days per week will be used)

The update also implies that if the wind is blowing in excess of 50 kms per hour from the north the crusher will still operate.

This increase in industrial activities is only going to be detrimental to us, our families and other South Broken Hill residents.

And this is only Stage 1.

We would like council to consider the effects of these activities in regard to the health and general well being of the residents of South Broken Hill

Also, if property prices in our area are reduced as a result of these activities, will our land rates be adjusted accordingly?

We recommend this application be rejected until further discussions have been carried out with the residents of south Broken Hill & the EPA.

We the undersigned recommend this application be rejected until further discussions have been carried out with the residents of south Broken Hill & the EPA.
