Support programs that help ensure New Yorkers in need have enough to eat

Right now, nearly 1.3 million New Yorkers are facing hunger, including 1 in 5 children. Thousands of New York City families are forced to make impossible choices every day. Should they pay their rent or put food on the table? Can they skip a few meals to afford a medical bill? As a result, many turn to soup kitchens, food pantries and other community food programs to help make ends meet.

It's simple: in a city with plenty of food to feed everyone, no New Yorker should go hungry. That's where City Harvest comes in. Every day, City Harvest's fleet of 22 trucks rescues some 160,000 pounds of healthy, nutritious food that would otherwise go to waste. We deliver it, free of charge, to 500 soup kitchens, food pantries and other community food programs that New Yorkers rely on to put food on the table.

This year, we'll rescue 59 million pounds of good food and deliver it to New Yorkers in need. It's a lot, but it's not enough. With proposed legislation that dramatically cuts funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), often referred to as food stamps, even more of our neighbors are going to rely on soup kitchens and food pantries to feed themselves and their families.

For 35 years, City Harvest has depended on New Yorkers stepping up to help each other. Today, that support is needed more than ever.

Together, we can ensure that all New Yorkers have a place to turn to put food on the table. Add your name to support City Harvest's food rescue and delivery programs that New Yorkers rely on every day.
