Tell Congress: Power Our Country into the 21st Century — Upgrade the Grid!

Welcome to the 21st century, where our energy needs have evolved, but our power grid? Not so much. The White House has a goal of 80% US renewable energy generation by 2030, but how can we expect to lead a green revolution when we don't have the infrastructure to support it?

These aging structures must adapt to efficiently integrate new clean energy sources, support widespread electrification, and endure increasingly more severe climate-related weather events like drastic heatwaves, cold snaps, or tropical storms. However, in its current state, the power grid is grossly inadequate to meet those demands. And while our government delays updating our grid, we are the ones paying the price whether that means outrageous energy bills or suffering through days of power cuts right when we need it most. Why should we foot the bill for this outdated system?

It's time for electricity that's not stuck in the past! Upgrading the grid and expanding transmission lines will improve reliability, lower electricity bills, and ensure we are ready for the clean energy transition.

Join the movement for a power supply that's not stuck in the last century; urge Congress to invest in a grid that is equitable and equipped to meet the needs of modern society.
Members of Congress,

We, the undersigned, call upon you to prioritize the modernization of the nation's power grid. Our current grid, a relic of the past century, is insufficient to handle today's technological needs. It fails to effectively integrate new clean energy sources, support growing electrification needs, and maintain resilience against the increasing severity of climate-induced extreme weather events.

The inadequacies of our grid are evident across the country, with many regions facing reliability issues and inflated energy costs. This not only hampers economic growth but also places an undue burden on American households, particularly in high-cost areas such as the Plains, Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, New York, and California.

We urge you to:

  • Recognize the critical need for grid modernization as a national priority.

  • Allocate necessary funding and resources to upgrade and expand the national power grid infrastructure and the deployment of additional transmission lines. Implement policies that facilitate the integration of clean and renewable energy sources into the grid.

  • Ensure equitable distribution of energy resources, aiming to reduce costs and improve reliability for all regions, especially those currently facing acute challenges.

  • Promote innovation and technological advancement in grid management and resilience to future-proof our energy system.

Investing in the power grid is investing in America's future — a future that is resilient, sustainable, and equitable. We call on you to take decisive action and commit to transforming our power grid into a system fit for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.
