Support the Fiscal Commission Act

America's national debt just hit $40 trillion for the first time in our history. This should be a wake-up call, but both Congress and the President are asleep at the wheel. Every day that goes by creates more problems:

  • Upward pressure on inflation and interest rates contributes to higher costs
  • Skyrocketing national debt weakens America's reputation abroad
  • Fiscal chaos slows growth and threatens economic stability

Both parties helped get us here, and both parties now have a responsibility to change course. Congress cannot pay lip service to this milestone today and then simply return to business as usual tomorrow.

This is why we must use this moment to urge Congress to pursue legislative solutions to our fiscal crisis.

Dear [send:full_name] ,

$40 trillion. That is the milestone that America's national debt just hit.

In the near term, that $40 trillion in debt increases pressure on interest rates and inflation; the cost of servicing the debt diverts money from defense and social programs; and the chaos in our fiscal and budget processes damages our international reputation.

But the impacts reach into the future as well. Young Americans will have to live with higher borrowing costs, more pressure from inflation, fewer resources available for education, housing, infrastructure, defense, and other priorities, and quite likely higher taxes as this country is forced to address the ballooning debt.

Hitting $40 trillion in debt must be a wake-up call.

That is why I am asking you to support the Fiscal Commission Act.

This legislation would establish a bipartisan commission to educate the public and put forward actionable debt-reduction policies, and Congress would be required to consider the commission's recommendations.

Your constituents are counting on you.
