If you've ever watched a Trump cabinet meeting, pointed at the TV, and shouted, "Who the f** is that guy?"* the odds are you were pointing at Doug Burgum—the former governor of North Dakota and the guy who somehow looks exactly like the stock photo that came with the $1.99 picture frame you just bought.
He's also managed to become one of the most embarrassingly incompetent interior secretaries in modern American history.
And apparently has no problem repeating Donald Trump's most obvious lies.
Oh... and that Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool that's now the world's largest mixture of lime Jell-O, snot, and Vulcan blood?
Burgum helped make that happen.
Oh, and that Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool that is now the world's largest trough of lime Jello, snot, and Vulcan blood? Burgum was key to making that happen:
As secretary of the interior, Burgum oversees the National Park Service and was the point person for the Reflecting Pool renovation. His department:
- Awarded the rushed $14.7 million resurfacing job without competitive bidding.
- Used a contractor whose installation was later found to be flawed.
- Continued defending that contractor as having done a "fantastic job."
- Decided to use the same company for repairs instead of seeking new bids.
- Apparently withheld or delayed records showing installation problems while the government prosecuted someone for supposed vandalism.
And now comes the truly infuriating part.
Even after prosecutors led by Trump supefan Jeanine Pirrot abandoned the vandalism case because the evidence didn't support it, Burgum is still repeating Trump's false claim that vandals caused the damage.
When you're more full of shit than Jeanine Pirrot, that is one hell of an accomplishment.
In short, he's incompetent, he's a Trump sychofant, and he apparently couldn't give a rat's ass about the truth.
