Ban Plastic Bags in India

Delhi has finally begun to fine anyone found using plastic bags within the capital territory - but India can take it one step further.
Banning plastic bags provides a much-needed reprieve for the environment, but only so long as the country works as a whole to develop more sustainable alternatives.
The current ban extends past shopping bags and wrappers to include garbage and take-out food bags, all of which contribute to a staggering amount of pollution. Animals choke and suffocate on plastic bags, and the sheer amount of non-biodegradable waste produced by these containers will only become more unmanageable unless the country puts its foot down.
Delhi has created a great model for a new, more biodegradable standard in India. Let's keep the movement's momentum instead of letting it fizzle from lack of support.
There is no future for plastic bags. Tell Jayanthi Natarajan that it's time to enforce a ban on the creation and use of plastic bags throughout the entire country.
Dear Jayanthi Natarajan,
Delhi's recent enforcement of plastic bag bans has set a great environmental precedent in India. However, unless all of India takes part in the plastic bag ban, it will only become harder to enforce the current ban in Delhi. A national movement against plastic bags would make the act of protecting India's environment a group effort that could help in the effort of eradicating unnecessary pollution.
[Your comments]I urge you to take Delhi's decision one step further and ban plastic bags throughout all of India.
Sincerely,
