Urge Policymakers to Make Decisions Based on Evidence

Now more than ever, rigorous nonpartisan research evidence should drive education and social policymaking.

Since our founding in the mid-1970s by a consortium of public and private funders, MDRC has played a unique role in designing, testing, and expanding effective solutions to some of the nation's most pressing poverty-related problems.

Our mission has taken on new urgency in a highly politicized world. MDRC has a track record of success in documenting effective programs that address some of the nation's challenges, including:

  • A temporary cash grant program developed by the Center for Employment Opportunities that helped more than 10,000 returning citizens transition successfully from prison during the pandemic.
  • The City University of New York's Accelerated Study in Associate Programs, which nearly doubled the graduation rate for community college students who started in remedial classes.
  • A program for housing voucher recipients, Creating Moves to Opportunity, that increased by 40 percentage points the proportion of renters who moved to neighborhoods with more educational and economic opportunities.

We're doing everything we can to make sure policymakers use the best possible evidence to make decisions to help alleviate poverty and improve education. Will you join this important effort? Please, sign your name today.
