Oppose Wildlife Killer Bill That Undermines Wildlife Protection

  • by: Sue Lee

The North American Energy Infrastructure Act of 2016 is supposedly an energy bill but there is concern regarding what is called a lethal dose of anti-wildlife amendments as noted by the Defenders of Wildlife.  They proclaim that these amendments would lead to dead bears, dead wolves and the destruction of many important wildlife protections.  You can read more about these provisions affecting wildlife in this bill at https://secure.defenders.org/site/Advocacy;jsessionid=05D1A8EB83D695C38AC09141EB051323.app20102b?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=3085&s_src=3WDE1609E1XX1&s_subsrc=060616_ADVACTFF_energybill_nondonor&autologin=true&utm_campaign=EnergyBill&utm_medium=email&utm_source=nondonors

The bill allegedly integrates the so-called "Sportsmen's Heritage and Recreational Opportunity Act" known for horrifically putting wildlife and public lands in grave danger. Some of the deadly provisions include such issues as delisting Wyoming and Great Lakes gray wolves, language affecting extinction of the African elephants and a crackdown on the illegal ivory trade, enforcing extreme measures in wolf and bear hunting, animals that are federally protected in Alaska and other language that undermines protection for wildlife.

The purpose of this petition is to urge the members of Congress to reject this bill that would put wildlife and public lands in grave danger.  These anti-wildlife measures would be catastrophic and undermines wildlife conservation. You can help in banning the passage of this killer bill by signing and sharing this petition, adding your own ideas and comments.

U. S. Congress – As an avid US citizen and a Defender of Wildlife, I strongly urge you to discard and turn down the substituted “Energy Policy Modernization Act of 2016," (S.2012) as passed by the House.  Such a bill is loaded with conceptual attacks on our wildlife and public lands.  As written, the bill will undermine wildlife conservation, public lands and bedrock environmental laws and protections. Other deadly provisions include such issues as delisting Wyoming and Great Lakes gray wolves, language affecting extinction of the African elephants and a crackdown on the illegal ivory trade, enforcing extreme measures in wolf and bear hunting, animals that are federally protected in Alaska and other language that undermines protection for wildlife. Please do not pass but please reject outright the House passed S. 2012 legislation.
