Emmert, get on the Presidents Climate Commitment
Presidents of other universities in the country have written a very strong, binding agreement for their peer university presidents to sign. Western Washington University and Evergreen State College are both signed on, along with many other colleges in the state of Washington and beyond.
Emmert has not signed the agreement. If he does so by Thursday, March 8, he can be a founding signatory. Now is a perfect time to ask Emmert to sign on to this document which would require the UW to slash its emissions. His peers will be pressuring him and the students' voice will make this appeal even stronger.
Please sign the petition so we can move our school closer to carbon neutrality.
We, these signed University of Washington students and faculty urge the honorable President Mark Emmert of the University of Washington to immediately sign onto the Presidents Climate Commitment as stated by the signatories of the American Universities and Colleges. We urge the President to make our university a charter signatory to the commitment and take immediate, tangible steps on campus to address and curb climate change now.
