History Deserves a Future: Protect Historic Preservation

The places that make us who we are deserve to be celebrated — and protected!

As the United States marks the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, we've put together the following petition to protect the historic sites, neighborhoods, and landmarks that tell the full American story—places that remind us of how far we've come and how far we still have to go. Your voice is crucial in advocating for the protection of our historic treasures. Sign the petition to...

Champion the Historic Preservation Fund by securing $250 million as we approach our nation's 250th anniversary—a timely investment in the places that tell America's story. For every $1 in federal funding, nearly $4 in local economic activity is generated, making this one of the most effective and impactful programs in the federal toolkit.

Protect preservation through the courts. Fight for the right for historic preservation organizations to have their cases heard in court to protect our nation's historic sites. These cases have ranged from fighting destructive highway projects to setting legal precedents that make it easier to defend other historic places in the future.

Tell the story of all Americans through places where our history happened, honoring the self-evident truth that all are created equal.

Protect Route 66. The most culturally celebrated stretch of highway in America deserves to be preserved for generations to come. Designating Route 66 as a National Historic Trail will have a significant economic impact along its more than 2,400 miles and be a fitting honor for its centennial celebration in 2026.

Let's protect the places that shape our identity, empower our communities, and keep our nation's story alive--for us and for future generations.
